Duties:
Refer to Village of Potsdam Code, Section 180-33
The jurisdiction of the Board of Appeals shall be appellate only and shall be limited to hearing and deciding appeals from and reviewing any order, requirement, decision, interpretation or determination made by the administrative official charged with the enforcement of any local law adopted pursuant to this article (180-34 D.).
Permitted action by Board of Appeals:
- Orders, requirements, decisions, interpretations, determinations. The Board of Appeals may reverse or affirm, wholly or partly, or may modify the order, requirement, decision, interpretation or determination appealed from and shall make such order, requirement, decision, interpretation or determination as in its opinion ought to have been made in the matter by the administrative official charged with the enforcement of such local law and to that end shall have all the powers of the administrative official from whose order, requirement, decision, interpretation or determination the appeal is taken.
- Use variances.
- Area variances.
- Imposition of conditions.

General FAQ’s Regular Meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, at 7:00 P.M., in the Civic Center Board Room, 2 Park Street, Potsdam, New York, except during the months of November through March, when one meeting per month is conducted on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings may be canceled if there is no business to conduct. Public Hearings and Special Meetings are scheduled when necessary. Members are appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval by the Village Board, for a five (5) year term unless the appointment is made to fill the unexpired term of a member who resigns. An Oath of Office is required. The Mayor, with approval of the Village Board, appoints a Deputy Chairperson and Secretary each year. |
