Information
Ives Park is located on the banks of the Raquette River in the heart of downtown Potsdam. The Park can be accessed from Maple and Main Streets, and Riverview Drive. A public parking area is located and accessed via Main Street and is adjacent to the park. The park also abuts the Village’s beautiful new Amish-designed pavilion, which hosts popular Potsdam Farmer’s Market and special events like outdoor movie screenings. The park’s centerpiece is a large gazebo that is used for outdoor weddings, ceremonies, concerts, musical events and community celebrations and observances. The park hosts popular events like the annual Summer Festival and Frosty Fest, among many others.
A new kayak/canoe launch was installed in the spring of 2014 and can be used by all visitors. Adding to the family-friendly nature of the park is the Ives Park Playscape, also known as Kay’s Play Space, completed in 2019. This beautiful play area includes natural playscapes with slides, a tunnel, and areas for children to scramble and climb, with views of the river and Sugar Island. Dedicated in honor of Kay Trithart, it was a gift of Rose Rivezzi and David Trithart. Ives Park is also home to Potsdam’s war monument, memorials honoring past residents who have served and given their lives for their nation in the nation’s wars of the past 100 years, installed through the generosity of the VFW and DAV.
