Where can I get a birth certificate?

You can get a copy of your birth certificate in-person at our office, or by mailing us an application.  Please note you can only get your birth certificate from us if you were born in the Village of Potsdam.  If you were born somewhere else, you must contact the municipality where you were born to obtain a birth certificate.

Who can get a copy of a birth certificate?

You can get a copy of your own birth certificate, or a copy of your son or daughter's birth certificate.

What do I need to bring with me to get a birth certificate in-person?

You can pick up a copy of your birth certificate in-person between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM in our offices.  You will need a valid photo ID. See document "Birth Record Application" - this document needs to accompany your request.

Is there a cost for a birth certificate?

Yes, the cost is $10/copy; cash, check or money order.   **Debit or credit cards are not accepted.

How do I get a copy of a birth certificate by mail?

Download the document "Birth Record Application" and fill out in its entirety.  Send the form along with a copy of your photo ID, and $10 per birth certificate to:  Registrar of the Village of Potsdam, P. O. Box 5168, Potsdam, NY 13676.
